Welcome

The team at Burkholder is busy and back in action! After a long winter our crews are in full force beautifying properties all around town. This is an exciting time of year for us in the green industry. We cannot help but to be thankful that plants, and all their glory, are a part of our everyday life. As the landscape around us is starting to burst in color and “green up,” we were compelled to have a “green” theme for this addition.

Company News – Our Green Initiative

At Burkholder, we are dedicated to being stewards of our environment. Our team is committed and trained to understand how we can leave a positive impact every day. Below is just a sample of our “Going Green” initiatives:

Recycling: We have designated bins and dumpsters allowing us to recycle 75% of material waste we bring back from job sites.

Cleaner Fuel: Our diesel powered equipment is now bio-diesel powered! Warning: Skid loaders that smell like potato chips may cause hunger pains!

Plant Health: We work with healthy plants naturally more resistant to insects and diseases.

Responsible Design: There are many natural and re-usable materials available on the market today that we use.

Irrigation program and monitoring: Properly programmed irrigation times and functional rain sensors will eliminate wasted water.

4-day work week: By working four ten-hour days our trucks are on the road 20% less which saves fuel for us and our employees traveling to work.

Paperless invoicing and payments: Utilizing email will reduce the work and fuel used by the U.S. Postal Service.

If you have any questions or comments about our Growing Green initiatives, please feel free to share with us.

Featured Project - Sloped Back Yard Transformed into Pool Paradise

Over the past three years, Burkholder Brothers has enjoyed completing many projects for the Lautenbach Residence in West Chester, PA. JoAnne Lautenbach first contacted us in 2007 to re-design the front landscape and walkway at her home. We designed and completed the project and started design work for a swimming pool and decking on the slope in her back yard. Please enjoy our Before and After pictures.

Before

Utilizing retaining walls for terracing, our team designed and installed: a swimming pool complete with colorful plantings, paver patio to replace the wooden deck, landscape lighting and wet laid stone walkway leading from driveway.

After

"Absolutely a great experience from conceptual design to final clean-up. Burkholder Brothers delivered unparalleled results. I couldn’t be happier with the quality and beauty on my own little oasis" JoAnne

Five Simple things to Go Green at home

Choose Furniture and Flooring made from Eco-Friendly Sources Trees absorb carbon dioxide and provide habitats for many plants and animals. Choose furniture and flooring made from Eco-Friendly sources such as sustainably managed forests, bamboo, and reclaimed wood.

Buy Local Produce North American produce travels a minimum of 1,500 miles. That is a lot of crude oil to move those tomatoes and strawberries. Buy local produce through Farmer’s Markets or community assisted agricultural programs.

Use Compact Fluorescent Bulbs Replace your incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs that use 75% less energy and last 10 times longer.

Shop with Reusable Canvas Bags
Paper or Plastic? How about shopping with reusable canvas bags. Petroleum-based plastic is not biodegradable. Americans go through 100 billion plastic bags annually, using an estimated 12 million barrels of oil.

Live by the three R’s Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Live simply – try to use less and recycle as much as possible, including newspapers, plastic and more.
