Company News – We are Growing!
As summer comes to a quick end, I hope the season was enjoyable for you and your families! This year has been one of weather extremes from record breaking snow, an early spring in March, with drought conditions and heavy rains mixed in this summer. It has been a challenge but our team survived. We do appreciate your patience and understanding along the way. The weather certainly was not very nice on the lawns and landscapes we maintain. Look for our tip on how to restore a stressed lawn.
We also want to take this opportunity to let you know we are surviving the economic challenge and are able to grow despite the current conditions. We have our team and their commitment to being the best service provider in our area and you, our loyal clients to thank. We appreciate your trust in us and the referrals you pass along.

New Patio for a New Home

After getting settled into their newly constructed home in Chadds Ford, PA, Brian and Denise were ready to move their efforts outdoors and begin creating a relaxing oasis in their backyard. As with many new construction properties, their site was a clean slate lacking both hardscaping and softscaping. Therefore, our challenge was to create a sense of space and intimacy within a wide open backyard. To accomplish this we built a two tiered patio with seat walls, thus allowing for two separate entertaining areas: one for grilling and eating, the other for relaxing by the fire. The installation of large trees for privacy screening along with the strategic placement of a stone veneer fireplace helped to soften the landscape while creating a more intimate feeling within the backyard.

Lagerstroemia Indica - Also Known As: Crape Myrtle
Why We like It: Crape Myrtles are versatile plants that can be grown as a large shrub or a small tree. Their textured white bark and long blooming flowers (summer into fall) create wonderful curb appeal and add year-round interest in any garden.
Where to Plant It: Select a site with full sun and well-drained soil. Crape Myrtles are excellent accent plants for the front foundation of a home or they can be grouped in threes for a dramatic look in the backyard.
Other Facts: Flower colors include pink, red, purple, and white, depending on the variety. Fall color ranges from orange to red. Crape Myrtles can be upright and vase-shaped or low and horizontal.

Mike Guerin - Account Manager
We would like to introduce Mike Guerin to everyone. Mike has been working for Burkholder since the winter of 2009 as a foreman. Mike began landscaping 10 years ago as a summer job while he went to school. Mike really enjoyed landscaping and since then has worked for a few different companies before coming to Burkholder. Mike has experience in all aspects of landscaping, but likes the maintenance end the best. Mike has been promoted into an account manager position, where he will be managing a number or our maintenance accounts. In Mike’s free time he enjoys playing music, anything from guitar, bass, and piano. He also enjoys working out at the gym.
