Leading Landscaping Business Selected To Appear on A&E’s ‘Drill Team’ on June 19

Burkholder Brothers provides fine landscape and hardscape design services to Norristown homeowner featured on cable show

(Aston, PA – June 7, 2010) Burkholder Brothers (Burkholder), a leading landscaping business in the Delaware Valley, was invited by A&E’s “Drill Team” to take part in a Norristown, PA homeowner’s outdoor space transformation. The homeowners, Marc and Chrissy Sirianni, will be featured on an episode to be aired on June 19, 2010 at 12:00pm ET. In "Drill Team," a team of experts battle the clock to help a desperate homeowner get their renovation project done on time for a big event. In the Sirianni situation, they were planning to host their cousin’s graduation party in their backyard which needed quite a bit of work. However, the contractor who committed to the project never delivered. The Drill Team was contacted in a last-ditch effort and they, in turn, asked Burkholder to work on their team. Of course, the project was completed on time and beyond the homeowners’ expectations. Burkholder will be hosting an “open house” for family and friends to join them in watching their cable t.v. debut.

Each week "Drill Team" restores the calm after natural disasters and nightmare renovations. With a real deadline only days away, carpenters Jeff Devlin and BranDon Russell along with designer Lauren Makk help save the day for a desperate homeowner. Whether it's picking up the pieces and rebuilding after a tragedy like a fire or flood, or tackling a renovation that's gotten out of hand, the Drill Team transforms unbearable situations into unbelievable realities in each one hour episode. This is an exciting time of year for us in the green industry. We cannot help but to be thankful that plants, and all their glory, are a part of our everyday life. As the landscape around us is starting to burst in color and “green up,” we were compelled to have a “green” theme for this addition. Company News – Our Green Initiative At Burkholder, we are dedicated to being stewards of our environment. Our team is committed and trained to understand how we can leave a positive impact every day. Below is just a sample of our “Going Green” initiatives: Recycling: We have designated bins and dumpsters allowing us to recycle 75% of material waste we bring back from job sites. Cleaner Fuel: Our diesel powered equipment is now bio-diesel powered! Warning: Skid loaders that smell like potato chips may cause hunger pains! Plant Health: We work with healthy plants naturally more resistant to insects and diseases. Responsible Design: There are many natural and re-usable materials available on the market today that we use. Irrigation program and monitoring: Properly programmed irrigation times and functional rain sensors will eliminate wasted water. 4-day work week: By working four ten-hour days our trucks are on the road 20% less which saves fuel for us and our employees traveling to work. Paperless invoicing and payments: Utilizing email will reduce the work and fuel used by the U.S. Postal Service. Featured Project - Sloped Back Yard Transformed into Pool Paradise Over the past three years, Burkholder Brothers has enjoyed completing many projects for the Lautenbach Residence in West Chester, PA. JoAnne Lautenbach first contacted us in 2007 to re-design the front landscape and walkway at her home. We designed and completed the project and started design work for a swimming pool and decking on the slope in her back yard. Please enjoy our Before and After pictures. Early Blooming Native Plants

Prunus Americana
Wild Plum

A thicket-forming shrub or small tree with short trunk, many spreading branches, broad crown, showy large white flowers, and red plums. American plum is a small, understory tree to 35 ft. with fragrant, white flowers in showy, flat-topped clusters occuring before the leaves in spring. The fruit that follows ripens to a shiny, bright red in August or September. The short, crooked trunk – with scaly, black bark – supports a graceful, open crown. Fall foliage ranges from electric red to pale yellow. The plums are eaten fresh and used in jellies and preserves, and are also consumed by many kinds of birds. Numerous cultivated varieties with improved fruit have been developed. A handsome ornamental with large flowers and relatively big fruit, American Plum is also grown for erosion control, spreading by root sprouts.

Eastern Redbud

Tree with short trunk, rounded crown of spreading branches, and pink flowers that cover the twigs in spring. Redbud is a 15-30 ft. tree with one to several picturesque, maroon-purple trunks and a wide, umbrella-like crown. Its pink flowers, borne in tight clusters along the stems and branches before new leaves appear, create a showy spring display. Smooth, heart-shaped, deciduous foliage does not have significant fall color. Trees from the southern part of the species’ range have smaller, glossier leaves and often a more compact form. Stunning tiny pink flower clusters cover the entire tree.

Serviceberry

Serviceberry This is typically an erect shrub, 3-18 ft. tall. In rich soils, a single trunk may develop and attain 30 ft. in height. Compact clusters of fragrant, white flowers emerge just before small, light-green, oval leaves appear. The small, sweet, blue berries ripen by early summer. Fall color is orange to red and takes place for long periods.
